President Harris Equals Fracking Ban July 25, 2024 President Biden’s first day in office was historic for all the wrong reasons. He used executive orders to block the Keystone pipeline, halted the development of ANWR and crippled our energy sector. Now, Vice President Harris is the presumptive nominee, and we fear her time in office will destroy what is left of our energy sector. During her short-lived campaign for President in 2019, Harris proudly declared, “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking.” Even though the industry provides thousands of jobs and billions of dollars to state economies, In New Mexico, the industry provides $11.3 billion to New Mexico’s economy and employs over 100,000 workers. It is mind-blowing that New Mexico Senator Martin Hinrich (D) would go against an industry that provides so much for his constituents. “We know Martin Heinrich will do whatever his rich donors demand, but when New Mexicans want answers his silence is deafening,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “The state’s energy industry delivers the billions that fund teachers, police officers, and every state program; so to watch Martin Heinrich cheer as his presumptive nominee wants to ban fracking is sickening. In the next few months, Martin Heinrich will make his once-every-six-year trip to rural New Mexico and every constituent should ask if he supports Kamala Harris’ fracking ban.” Fracking is also a huge industry in the swing state of Pennsylvania. In 2020, we did a comparison between New York and Pennsylvania and saw how New York has suffered from banning fracking while Pennsylvania embraced the industry and received many benefits. “Fracking supports tens of thousands of jobs in swing states like Pennsylvania,” Power The Future founder and Executive Director Daniel Turner posted on X. “There’s no question that energy is on the ballot in November.” Back to Blog Posts
