HYPOCRISY: New Mexico Governor Doesn’t Obey Her Own “Green New Deal” December 15, 2020 Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham wants every New Mexican to live under a renewable energy mandate…as long as she doesn’t have to do it herself. You might recall in April 2019, Governor Lujan Grisham signed the Energy Transition Act, also called the “mini” Green New Deal. The Governor and her radical environmental supporters can’t go more than a few moments without heaping praise on the law. In fact, Senator Martin Heinrich cited the law in his awkward response to voting “Present” on the real Green New Deal. If you take a look at the law, the first key renewable standard requires companies to make sure customers are getting at least 20 percent of their energy from unreliable renewables by a date of January 1, 2020. So, we decided to take a look at the Governor’s own electric bills and (surprise!) learned she isn’t living by her own mandate. Like a typical eco-left hypocrite, not only is the Governor failing to meet her own 20 percent standard, she has increased her energy use by more than 25 percent over the same time last year. This all comes at a time when the Governor is leading New Mexico to the 7th HIGHEST unemployment in the country with the FEWEST energy jobs in more than a decade. It’s very clear: if hypocrisy was a renewable electric source, Governor Lujan Grisham would have much more power. New Mexico Back to Blog Posts
