Biden Administration Spending Billions on Electric Vehicles, Won’t Do Anything About Gas Prices May 9, 2022 Last week, the Biden administration announced it was spending billions of taxpayer dollars on new programs pushing electric vehicles. Much of this funding will go towards bolstering American-sourced battery supply chains. Most batteries in electric vehicles today come from supply chains dominated by China and are riddled with human rights abuses. These funds will come from the infrastructure law that Congress passed. Fox News writes, “The Department of Energy on Monday announced more than $3 billion in funding to bolster supply chains and expand domestic production of advanced batteries in an effort to meet President Biden’s goal of having electric vehicles make up half of all vehicle sales in America by 2030.” While boosting domestic battery production is a laudable goal, the administration is willing to bend over backwards to push electric vehicles but won’t lift a finger to bring down gas prices for the vast majority of Americans who drive traditional combustion engine cars. According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $4.32. That’s one cent less than the highest ever recorded price – which was under Biden in March. Last week, we saw record-high diesel prices. Americans can and should have the right to purchase an electric vehicle if that’s the car that meets their needs, but electric vehicles accounted for just 3.4% of car sales at the end of 2021. At a time of historic inflation and record-breaking fuel prices, maybe the Biden administration should focus more on helping the millions of struggling American families who depend on gas-powered cars and trucks.
