UK’s Cold Snap Shows Renewables’ Unreliability

January 8, 2025

As the United Kingdom shivers under freezing temperatures, the National Energy System Operator (NESO), one of their regulators, has issued an urgent call for electricity providers to bolster output to avert potential blackouts. This alarming measure highlights the stark reality: so-called renewable energy sources like wind power are unreliable, especially during surges in energy demand. The United States must not follow in Europe’s footsteps and seek a grid that run on these unreliable sources of energy. Sky News reports:

“There is strain on the system due to a lack of wind and bitterly cold temperatures, which stoke stronger demand for electricity and gas.”

This energy crisis shows the inherent unreliability of wind and solar energy. Wind turbines, which are heavily dependent on weather conditions, cannot be relied upon to meet surges in energy demand. When the wind is not blowing, they are not producing power. This over-reliance on renewables has left the U.K. vulnerable, especially during extreme weather conditions. The shutdown of coal power stations has made problem worse.

The world must recognize that renewables cannot meet the energy demands of a modern society without sending it back to the stone age. One of Power The Future’s goal is to help the United States understand this reality before more tragic deaths from lack of energy occur. Whether publicly through vowing to eliminate fossil fuels or imposing a restrictive natural gas tax, the Biden administration is working down to the wire to make the U.S. more like Europe with unreliable and expensive energy. Power The Future will continue to fight the woke environmentalist agenda that flies in the face of decent Americans and dedicated energy workers.
