Taxpayers Stuck with Eco-Left’s Diesel-Powered “All-Electric” Fire Trucks May 23, 2024 Just when you thought the hypocrisy of the eco-left reached an all-time high, it continues to reach new heights. Progressive politicians across the country have taken a victory lap over the “all-electric” and “zero emissions” fire trucks that have begun operating in stations across the nation. Here’s the kicker: every single one of these firetrucks comes complete with a diesel engine to ensure that the truck can run and operate properly when the battery dies. One of these “all-electric” fire trucks cost a whopping $1.8 million, with $400,000 in funding from the federal government. Not only do these trucks exist, but you are on the hook for paying for them. The grant in question is the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) from 2005, which replaced diesel engines in every state. Following President Biden’s Infrastructure Act, DERA received a new round of funding. Funding, which states and localities are misappropriating “fully electric” fire trucks under the false guise of “diesel has nothing to do with DERA.” Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future, said “this would be laughable if so much money wasn’t being wasted on such a big lie.” He continued, “Every politician celebrating these trucks as ‘all electric’ are either lying to the public, or too clueless to know what they’re talking about. Over-spending tax dollars on a product and then misleading voters is nothing less than pure fraud.” Back to Blog Posts
