PTF Praises Congressional Effort to End Biden’s Natural Gas Tax

Today, key energy leaders in Congress are expected to introduce a resolution to end the tax on natural gas production signed into law by former President Biden. Sen. John Hoeven (R-North Dakota), Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas), and Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) are leading the effort to target the tax program within the Environmental Protection Agency as part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The IRA’s punitive measure required extra reporting and fees associated with natural gas production.

“As part of his war on energy, former President Biden took radical steps to end fossil fuels during his administration which hurt the hardworking energy producers in my district who have worked diligently to increase production while fueling our allies abroad,”’ said Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas), who is leading the House CRA effort with Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas).”

The Inflation Reduction Act was passed by the Democrat-controlled Congress on a party-line vote in 2022. Once it was signed into law, President Biden admitted, “We should have named it what it was.” Inflation in 2022 averaged 8.3%, the highest in over 40 years. 

American families have been feeling the negative effects of the IRA for the past two years. The cost of heating our homes and fueling our cars skyrocketed. We applaud these energy leaders for working to reverse Biden’s IRA.
