New Song Stands Up For Miners August 14, 2023 A new song is sweeping the nation and standing up to politicians in Washington, D.C. The song “Rich Men North of Richmond” by Virginia native Oliver Anthony. The song has over 9 million views on YouTube after only being available for five days. Billboard wrote, “The Virginia resident is resonating with music listeners, thanks to his song raging against greed and injustice.” The lyrics explore “the pain, frustration and angst of the working class into lines that rage against greedy rich men,” One verse of the song references looking out for miners, “I wish politicians would look out for miners And not just minors on an island somewhere Lord, we got folks in the street, ain’t got nothin’ to eat And the obese milkin’ welfare” With so many voices fighting against coal miners and energy workers, it is refreshing to hear a voice that stands up for the men and women who work hard to keep this country moving. After all, coal keeps the lights on, and we are proud to support not only miners but all energy workers across the United States. Back to Blog Posts
