New Mexico Leaders Go On Record About Democratic Hopefuls Fracking Ban Promise November 21, 2019 When it comes to energy, it seems several elected Democrat leaders in New Mexico are going against policies put forth by Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and others. In a recent article, New Mexico officials were asked to respond to plans put forth by Warren and Sanders to ban oil and gas leasing on federal lands. The responses could be summed up easily: disagreement. According to the article: Nora Sackett, a spokesperson for the Governor, said Lujan Grisham planned to call on a potentially Democrat White House to adopt a more “flexible” approach to fossil fuel development allowing states to decide for themselves if drilling would be permitted, and how they would transition to renewable energy. Even New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich, who recently made to politically convenient decision to support the Green New Deal, said he doesn’t support an “outright ban.” However, Senator Heinrich did throw his support behind higher taxes saying, “we need to put a price on carbon.” We’ll wait and see if their positions will be enough to satisfy their radical eco-left supporters. fracking New Mexico Back to Blog Posts
