New Mexico Governor’s New Electric Fire Truck Relies on Diesel

May 16, 2024

Last week, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham proudly announced the purchase of a new $1.8 million electric fire truck. The problem is that this million-dollar firetruck is equipped with a diesel engine for times when the electric batteries run out. Conveniently, the fossil fuel engine was overlooked in the Governor’s press release celebrating the “zero emission” vehicle.

The Center Square reports,

“The New Mexico Environment Department provided Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue with $417,718 worth of taxpayer funding to help pay for $1,829,973 in project costs to replace a 1991 Engine Model Year diesel-fueled Class 8, Pierce Dash fire engine… Neither Grisham nor the environment department mentioned that the “zero emissions” fire engine comes equipped with a diesel engine for times when the batteries give out, or as the marketing copy puts it, ‘”Internal combustion engine engagement is automated with seamless transition after batteries have been depleted.”’ That is most likely when the engine is used for its designed purpose of spraying large amounts of water on a fire. When the diesel engine is running the emissions are more than zero.”

This is how the eco-left operates: by leaving out crucial information, like the fact that this fancy new truck still relies on fossil fuels. The world still runs on fossil fuels, and that is why it is important to support the American fossil fuel industry rather than tear it down like so many left-leaning leaders do.

“This truck is the epitome of all so called ‘green’ products because there is no way it would exist or be functional without fossil fuels,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “Electric engines are simply not up to powering a simple road trip, much less taking on a role as critical as public safety. The diesel engine is proof positive that renewables would not exist on their own accord.”
