New Mexico Governor Actively Hiding Her Gas Price Increase Bill March 1, 2023 Governor Lujan Grisham (D-NM) is refusing to disclose a public document surrounding her proposal to raise fuel prices across the state. On February 7, Power The Future sent an official request to the New Mexico Environment Department for communications that discuss the so-called “Clean Fuel Standard.” Soon after, House Bill 426, the “Clean Fuel Standards” bill, was introduced in the Legislature. It took over two weeks to receive a response from the Environment Department, and the letter contained a whole lot of nothing. The letter explained that Governor Lujan Grisham is using Executive Privilege to keep it secret. “This bill will dramatically raise the price at the pump on New Mexico’s families, so it’s no surprise why Governor Lujan Grisham wants to hide the truth,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “Last year, the Governor tried to sneak this bill through in the middle of the night and now she’s hiding discussions about it within her administration. If the Governor is proud of what she’s doing, she wouldn’t have to hide.” The letter from the Governor’s office can be found here. The so-called “Clean Fuel Standard” is another proposal the eco-left pushed and failed in every other previous session. Only three states have passed a similar bill, including California, Oregon, and Washington. The average price of gas in those three states is currently $4.30. Hopefully, the legislators will wake up and stop trying to revive this failed bill. New Mexico Back to Blog Posts
