Manchin Takes a Stand and Will Not Support New Climate Spending

July 15, 2022

Late last night, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) told Democratic leaders he would not support any economic package that included more spending on climate change. A spokesperson for Manchin made it clear that the West Virginia Senator was focused on inflation and not political games.

“Senator Manchin believes it’s time for leaders to put political agendas aside, reevaluate and adjust to the economic realities the country faces to avoid taking steps that add fuel to the inflation fire.”

Power the Future Founder and Executive Director Daniel Turner praised Manchin for his stance.

“On the same day that President Biden arrives in Saudi Arabia begging Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for more oil, Senator Manchin deserves credit for once again putting the brakes on the left’s green fantasies. Unlike many in his party, Senator Manchin understands the connection between the inflation strangling our economy and the boot the Biden Administration is keeping on our domestic energy producers.”

The news upset the eco-left, with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) immediately tweeting, “With legislative climate options now closed, it’s now time for executive Beast Mode.” Encouraging Biden to lead with the President’s favorite activity, executive orders.

“Make no mistake: this latest setback will not stop the environmental left. Some are already suggesting the White House start issuing executive orders to implement their agenda, a course of action the Supreme Court just ruled was unconstitutional in West Virginia v. EPA. Congress’ inability to force an unpopular and misguided agenda on an unwilling electorate does not empower the White House to create laws, and all those who support traditional American energy must remain vigilant and hold those accountable who will stop at nothing in their pursuit of a radical green agenda.”
