Kamala Harris Comes Up Short on Energy Flip-Flops September 11, 2024 Last night, the topic of energy did not get nearly the time it deserved. Making it worse, the time spent on it was filled with policy flip-flops from Vice President Kamala Harris. E&E News reports, “Trump has pledged to boost U.S. fossil fuel production further if he wins, and he claimed it would have been higher had he been in office in recent years. The two candidates had been trading jabs about fracking since Harris rose to the top of the ticket, so it was no surprise that it came up Tuesday night. The fracking-driven drilling boom has made Pennsylvania the No. 2 gas-producing state in the country and fostered job growth in related industries. But it is unpopular with many people in cities and suburbs in the politically divided state. In 2019, when running for the Democratic presidential nomination, Harris said she supported a nationwide ban on fracking. She has since walked that back. ‘“I will not ban fracking,” Harris said Tuesday.” The fact that last night’s debate barely touched the surface of the energy is a stark contrast to the 2020 presidential election, where climate change was at the top of each candidate’s policies. In fact, there was a town hall dedicated to climate change where Harris gave a resounding yes to banning fracking. Something that seems to have slipped her mind during this debate. In response to the Presidential Debate, Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future had the following to say, “Kamala Harris was allowed to stay vague on her policy flip-flops, offering zero reasons for her alleged change of heart on fracking and electric vehicles. That’s why we should all be suspicious of what Kamala Harris says, but never doubt what she’s done. Kamala Harris illegally stopped natural gas exports hurting states like Pennsylvania, and oversaw the fewest acres leased for oil production since World War II. She can hide from answering questions on the debate stage, but can’t hide from the truth.” Back to Blog Posts
