Energy to Be Focus as Nick Begich Announces Congressional Run July 14, 2023 For nearly 50 years, Alaska’s lone Congressman, Don Young, fiercely advocated for responsible development of Alaska’s natural resources. Young understood that Alaska’s entry into the United States was approved on the condition that the state be able to pay for itself – and not be a drain on the federal treasury – by safely and ethically bringing its enormous oil, gas and mineral deposits to market. Alaska’s seat in Congress is currently held by Mary Peltola, whose campaign slogan, “Fish, Family, Freedom”, has sometimes found itself at odds with development opportunities. Her full-throated support of the Willow project notwithstanding, Peltola’s had to explain her position on a number of other projects since her election to fill Young’s seat following his death in early 2022. Nick Begich III, the grandson of the man who Don Young followed in Congress, announced his 2024 run for that seat yesterday, and said energy policy will be a key differentiator in the race. In the press release announcing his candidacy, Begich stated, “If we can unlock the full potential of our natural resources, while ensuring environmental sustainability, we can drive economic growth, create jobs, and build a prosperous future for all Alaskans. We have the resources, the talent, and the spirit to create an incredible future for Alaska. All we need is the will and representation to make it happen.” Energy to Be Focus as Nick Begich Announces Congressional RunBegich will be a guest on the Power The Future Energy Hour on Tuesday, July 18th. The show airs from 5-6PM Alaska time (9-10pm Eastern) on KVNT 92.5FM, 1020AM or online at 1020KVNT.com. Begich will appear during the 5:15-5:30 segment. Alaska Back to Blog Posts
