Election Countdown: Ohio’s 6th Congressional Race

October 22, 2020

Race: Ohio’s 6th Congressional District

Key Cities: Cambridge, Carrollton, and Salem

Matchup: Republican/Incumbent Bill Johnson vs. Democrat Shawna Roberts

The Race:

Ohio’s 6th district covers the eastern portion of the state and includes Cambridge, Carrollton, and Salem. The incumbent is Representative Bill Johnson (R), who was first elected in 2010 and is running against Shawna Roberts (D).

Rep. Johnson voted no to both H.R. 205 which extends the ban of offshore drilling in the U.S. and H.R. 1146 which banned the exploration of oil fields in Alaska. Rep. Johnson has defended the coal industry and American energy independence over his five terms in Congress, which is a rich industry in Ohio’s 6th district.

The Cook Political Report has ranked the district at R+16 so it’s seen as solid Republican.
