Eco-Hypocrisy: Washington D.C. Government Plotting To Sue Oil Companies Even As They Purchase Millions Of Gallons Of Fuel

July 29, 2019

Amidst rising homicide rates, the local government of the District of Columbia seems to have a different priority – advance the eco-extremist agenda.

Earlier this year, D.C. announced that it would mandate 100% renewable energy by 2032, “the most ambitious timetable in the country,” with little concern for how it would affect families’ electric bills. Right now, under six percent of Washington, D.C.’s energy comes from renewables.

Now, D.C. is taking a new step – scheming to sue oil companies even as it buys millions of gallons of fuel from them.

Washington D.C.’s municipal government is reportedly “exploring an environmentalist lawsuit against oil providers,” and is even considering allowing outside attorneys to investigate and possibly sue Exxon, an oil company, for “reasons linked to climate change.” That’s right, D.C. is plotting to use taxpayers’ dollars to sue an oil company with outside attorneys.

This is rife with hypocrisy, as D.C. is currently buying fuel from the very industry they are considering suing. An investigation from the Washington Free Beacon out this weekend finds that city vehicles in D.C. purchased “more than 1 million gallons of fuel in 2018 alone.”

Does that make Washington D.C. complicit in whatever so-called damages they want from a lawsuit? After all, they’re the ones buying millions of gallons of fuel. Perhaps they should consider suing themselves!

This is eco-hypocrisy and a waste of taxpayer dollars, plain and simple.
