Christmas Wish List #6: Replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve

December 23, 2024

Our sixth Christmas wish is for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to be refilled with American oil. The SPR is a crude oil reserve founded for emergency use and to reduce the impact of disruptions in petroleum product supplies. The Biden-Harris administration drained half of our SPR, leaving the United States vulnerable.

The SPR is a vital insurance policy against unforeseen disruptions in global oil markets. The reserve provides insurance for various events, including hurricanes that impact Gulf Coast refineries and international conflicts that affect oil supplies.

During President Trump’s second term, we hope he prioritizes refilling our SPR and uses American oil to do so. By refilling the SPR, the U.S. government ensures that this safety net remains robust. A well-stocked SPR provides the flexibility to respond quickly to emergencies, maintaining the energy necessary to power the economy and meet national security needs.

Refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is an investment in America’s energy future. It ensures resilience in the face of crises, protects consumers from economic shocks, and reinforces the nation’s geopolitical strength. As global uncertainties persist, prioritizing the SPR sends a clear message: the United States is prepared to meet any challenge with confidence and stability.
