Attack on ANWR Imminent, if House Dems Get Their Wish August 27, 2021 When the Alaska Congressional delegation worked with the Trump Administration and their colleagues to open the 10-02 area of ANWR to oil and gas drilling, as part of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a sweeping 2017 tax reform package, the environmental left was outraged. After all, they had successfully held off ANWR development for nearly 40 years; even though Congress itself had authorized development for the Coastal Plain of ANWR. When the first lease sale occurred this past January, radical environmentalists decried it as the beginning of the end for caribou, polar bears and various other wildlife in the Arctic. They – and their champions in Congress – encouraged various environmental groups to do anything possible to stymie progress. When Joe Biden was sworn in, he immediately fulfilled a campaign promise and shut down future development in ANWR via executive order. Now, Congressional members of the eco-fringe want to put permanent protections for ANWR into the upcoming $3.5 trillion climate package. According to a report in E&E News, Congressman Jared Huffman (D-CA), a former attorney with the National Resources Defense Council, permanent protections will be part of the package. All of this activity by the eco-left to kill jobs, local, state and government revenues and Congressional approval for developing the 10-02 should be a wake-up call for Americans who care about America’s energy independence. Rest assured that Power The Future will continue to champion ANWR, while pushing back against the extreme environmental positions found in the pending Congressional climate package.
