New Mexico Governor Jets Off to UN Climate Week September 24, 2024 New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is joining the likes of John Kerry with all the hypocritical travel. This week, Governor Lujan Grisham took the stage in New York City to participate in Climate Week 2024. There, she announced another executive order to “expedite New Mexico’s transition” away from energy sources that power the state. The Governor made the announcement in front of her climate group before revealing it to her constituents and celebrated “moonshot” spending initiatives but didn’t discuss how to fund them once her transition away from billions in revenue is complete. The Executive Order reads, “Gov. Lujan Grisham’s Executive Order will enable the state to leverage billions of federal and state dollars to ensure that New Mexico’s workforce is prepared for the work of modernizing transportation, telecommunications, water, and energy systems. The Executive Order also dovetails with Lujan Grisham’s role as co-chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance and her leadership of the organization’s upcoming Climate-Ready Workforce Initiative.” We are unsure why the governor had to jet off across the country to make this announcement, primarily when a flight from New Mexico to New York uses around 1.1 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions. “Real leaders stay and deal with the problems they created at home, so it makes sense that Governor Lujan Grisham is jetting off to another meeting to lecture us on climate,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “The saddest part is to watch Lujan Grisham celebrate her latest executive action with her friends in New York City while waiting to tell New Mexico’s families who are still struggling. To be clear: When Governor Lujan Grisham talks about a ‘transition,’ she is advocating for the loss of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in revenue, that’s why she waits until she’s in New York to talk about it.” Governor Lujan Grisham and members of her administration previously flew to Scotland and Dubai to attend UN Climate Conferences. The next COP meeting is set for November in Azerbaijan. New Mexico Back to Blog Posts
