Kamala Harris Picks Climate Clone for VP August 6, 2024 It was announced today that Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) as her running mate and potentially the next Vice President of the United States. In choosing Walz, Harris has signaled that we would be in for four more years of failed energy policies. “If you like the record prices and sky-high inflation delivered by the Biden-Harris energy agenda, you’re going to love Tim Walz,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. “As Governor, Tim Walz based his agenda on the failed California model which may endear him to Kamala Harris, but not to struggling families. Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote for the failed Inflation Reduction Act, and in picking Tim Walz, it looks like she wants just another green rubber stamp.” As governor, Walz signed bills requiring Minnesota to abandon affordable and reliable energy sources and imposed arbitrary electric vehicle mandates. Additionally, while in Congress, Walz voted to support controversial cap-and-trade programs and voted in favor of a carbon tax. Tim Walz’s energy lowlights include: Voting in favor of cap-and-trade while saying it’s “debatable” if such a system is better than just imposing a carbon tax. Walz tied Minnesota’s car rules to California’s forcing more electric vehicles upon working families. Signed a bill requiring Minnesota to buy 80 percent of its electricity from wind or solar within the next 6 years with the mandate toward 100 percent by 2040. As of 2022, fossil fuels and nuclear provided nearly 70 percent of Minnesota’s electricity. Back to Blog Posts
