Eco-Left’s Vandalism of Ancient English Monument Highlights the Latest Example of Criminal Behavior Performed in the Name of “Protesting” June 20, 2024 Wednesday marked one of the eco-left’s recent and more extreme acts of vandalism when Just Stop Oil, an environmental activist group, boasted about damaging Stonehenge, a renowned prehistoric monument located in the United Kingdom. The Washington Post reports, “Protesters sprayed part of Stonehenge with orange paint Wednesday, calling on the British government to take action on climate change a day before thousands are expected to flock to the 5,000-year-old site in southern England to celebrate the summer solstice.” Just Stop Oil did one thing impressive, united political opposition leaders in the UK, “British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak tweeted after the incident that Just Stop Oil was “a disgrace.” Opposition leader Keir Starmer was also critical, saying in a post that the “damage done to Stonehenge is outrageous” and that those “responsible must face the full force of the law.” The hypocrisy of these protests is not lost on us. As Power The Future Founder Daniel Turner points out, without oil and fossil fuel products, these protests would not have paint, smartphones or transportation. It is also important to remember these “activists” are not activists at all but merely actors auditioning for their next role. As the Washington Examinerreported in May that Just Stop Oil receives funding from Climate Emergency Fund (CEF) — a Beverly Hills-based charity linked to Hollywood figures — and other far-left organizations with deep ties to top liberal nonprofit organizations. This incident highlights the eco-left’s continued disregard for the law to gain attention toward their misconstrued cause. Unfortunately, as this is an election year, this is probably just the start of extreme protests that we will see from the eco-left. Back to Blog Posts
