Thousands of Texas Solar Panels Destroyed by Hail— Highlighting the Ineffectiveness of Green Energy March 27, 2024 On March 15th, a hailstorm destroyed thousands of solar panels on a solar farm in Texas, leaving shards of glass throughout the land and the possibility of chemicals leaking into the local groundwater supply. As Newsweek reported,“Residents expressed concerns that the damaged panels could leach chemicals into the surrounding environment. One resident, Nick Kaminski, said that he was worried about chemicals potentially leaking into the groundwater, which his house uses as its water supply.” So-called “green” energy should not cause US citizens to worry about the toxicity of their drinking water every time a hailstorm passes through their town. Yet, policies from the Biden administration continue to prop up this ineffective and dangerous method of energy production, as this Texas solar farm is,“One of many renewable energy installations across the state which has championed clean energy projects in recent years while benefiting the most from federal tax credits and incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act.” The pervasiveness of solar energy is not just an immediate threat to those who live by the glass-shattering, chemical-leaking farms; it threatens the nation’s energy security. How can the US be expected to lead the world if one hailstorm can cripple our entire energy infrastructure? Back to Blog Posts
