Bloomberg Pledges $500 Million to Close All Coal Plants September 27, 2023 It is no secret the eco-left hates coal mines. President Obama started the war on coal, and the eco-left aims to finish it. Michael Bloomberg recently announced a $500 million commitment to fighting the “climate crisis” and shutting down coal plants. The Washington Examiner reports, “Former New York City Mayor MichaelBloomberg has said he will spend $500 million on a campaign to close all remaining U.S. coal plants and block the construction of any new natural gas plants. The $500 million funding for the “Beyond Carbon” campaign announced Wednesday, to which the former New York mayor had already given $500 million, is one of the largest U.S. philanthropic efforts to date related to climate change.” Bloomberg has big plans for this contribution, aiming to close every coal plant in the United States within the next ten years. “The funds will help Bloomberg’s initiative meet its goal of shutting down “every last” coal plant in the U.S. by 2030, and will fund work with state and local organizations to close the doors of the 150-remaining coal-fired plants in the U.S. It will also be dedicated to cutting natural gas capacity in half and stopping the construction of new plants.” Coal keeps the lights on. And when eco-left activists or policymakers in Washington claim we don’t need fossil fuels, just know they are not telling the truth. Fossil fuels like coal remain a critical energy source for people in the U.S. and worldwide. Back to Blog Posts
