Supporters of Green New Deal Celebrate Earth Day by Recycling Failure April 24, 2023 Four years after the first attempt failed to pass, supporters of the Green New Deal reintroduced the controversial bill just before Earth Day. One of the sponsors of the bill, New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) famously said the world would end in 12 years. Yet, despite the end of the world allegedly being at stake, AOC failed to bring this bill for a vote in the last Congress when her party held a majority. In 2019, the Green New Deal failed to pass the Senate when it didn’t receive a single vote in support.
