Richard Glick, Biden’s Nominee to Lead FERC: Blackouts are a Price Worth Paying

When he first came to office, President Biden appointed Richard Glick to serve as the Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the powerful but little-known commission tasked with making sure our nation has affordable and reliable energy. In February, he and his fellow Democrat commissioners tried to ram through a policy that would have made building new natural gas pipelines practically impossible. That effort was put on hold thanks to West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin but don’t think Richard Glick has changed his tune. 

Now, he is publicly stating that blackouts and less reliable energy are a price worth paying to move away from fossil fuel energy. The Washington Examiner editorial board writes:

“For the Democrats on the commission, rolling blackouts may just be the price we all have to pay to meet their party’s carbon emission reduction goals. ‘We are in a transitory phase on the electric side, in particular, of the industry, and we need to address some of the challenges that are associated with that,’ Biden-appointed FERC Chairman Richard Glick said. ‘I think the argument about going back to the way it used to be 30 years ago, that’s not going to happen,’ Glick continued. ‘We’re moving forward.’

“In other words, the Biden electrical grid policy basically boils down to: ‘Damn the blackouts — full decarbonization ahead!’”

Richard Glick has been renominated by Biden to continue serving as chairman of FERC. His nomination will go before Senator Manchin’s committee. Manchin and the other members of the committee must stand against these radical anti-American energy views. Nearly two-thirds of the country face the prospect of blackouts this summer. Richard Glick thinks that’s a price worth paying.
