Despite Eco-Claims, New Mexico Electric Rates Continue to Rise December 10, 2021 New Mexico’s “mini” Green New Deal comes with a cost, and New Mexico’s working families are stuck with the bill. The newest report from Choose Energy shows New Mexico’s electric rates rose 3.8 percent between September 2020 and the same time in 2021. To make matters worse, ratepayers in the state now pay 14.64 cents per kilowatt-hour which is higher than the national average of 14.19 cents. It all adds up to New Mexico residents having to pay the 14th highest electric rates in the nation. The rising electric bills are exactly what Power The Future predicted would happen when the state passed a renewable mandate known as the Energy Transition Act, even as supporters of the law repeatedly promised rates would not go up.
