New Mexico’s Energy Workers Deliver 45% of Entire State Budget, Wind and Solar…Not So Much June 24, 2021 Despite the headwinds of unfriendly administrations in Washington and Santa Fe, energy workers are delivering record high production for New Mexico. A recent analysis delivered to a key legislative budget committee highlighted that New Mexico’s oil and natural gas workers have recovered from the pandemic lows and are producing enough revenue to fund 45 percent of the entire state budget…annually. In contrast, a 2019 study revealed wind and solar “production” on public lands made up a whopping a 0.01 percent of the revenue.
