Biden’s Policies Do Little to Help Climate but A Lot to Hurt Americans February 12, 2021 The oil and gas industry has taken hits from the Biden administration since he has taken office, immediately pushing the eco-left’s radical agenda. The most notable was Biden’s executive order canceling the Keystone pipeline just a few hours into his first day in office, instantly taking away 11,000 American energy jobs. The pipeline was to safely transport gas from Canada to the U.S. and provide thousands of jobs and millions in local revenue to surrounding communities. The National Review reports on what will happen instead: With no available pipeline, Canada and its oil producers will simply load their oil onto trains or trucks, relying instead on modes of transport that are more risky and less energy-efficient. Indeed, doing so will involve higher greenhouse-gas emissions than the pipeline would have, especially considering the pipeline developers’ recent promise to use only renewable energy to operate the project. The Keystone pipeline was a vital infrastructure project that would safely transport gas into the U.S. using renewable energy to operate, while also proving much needed jobs and revenue to communities throughout middle America. President Biden has used drastic federal overreach to push policies that do little to help our carbon footprint and lots to harm the American people. The most dumbfounding part of this is that the U.S. CO2 emissions already comply with the Paris agreement, having dropped 11 percent in 2020 due to COVID-19. The United States has successfully seen emissions drop since the 1980s. Despite our population now being 40 percent larger than it was in the 1980s, the U.S. CO2 emissions are approximately the same as they were then. Yet, Biden’s close ally China is the global leader in CO2 emissions: China, on the other hand, is not just rapidly increasing CO2 emissions, it is massively expanding coal-fired electricity production. According to Voice of America, “China put 38.4 gigawatts (GW) of new coal-fired power capacity into operation in 2020, more than three times the amount built elsewhere around the world and potentially undermining its short-term climate goals.” Furthermore, according to research released on Wednesday by Global Energy Monitor, China’s coal-fired fleet capacity rose by a net 29.8 GW in 2020 (including decommissions), even as the rest of the world made cuts of 17.2 GW. Biden and his eco-left allies keep taking away thousands of American energy jobs and pushing higher energy costs onto American citizens in the name of climate, but any further progress made by the U.S. on CO2 emissions will be undermined by China whose emissions keep rising even during the pandemic.
