New Mexico’s eco-left wants to “diversify” away from oil…by raising your taxes June 1, 2020 It was a busy opinion weekend for New Mexico’s eco-left as they continue working to destroy jobs and bury one of the most vital industries in the state. Three separate opinion pieces over the weekend shared the same theme when it comes to oil and natural gas in New Mexico: Our energy industry is an “addiction” and it’s time we “turn the page” for New Mexico’s economy. The most eye-popping suggestion comes for Albuquerque Democrat Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino who suggested the state simply stop putting oil and gas revenue into the budget. Keep in mind he still wants the money from the industry, but he simply wants to only use it on one-time projects. So, when his plan slashes the pay of New Mexico’s teachers by over 30 percent where is he going to come up with another source of money? From the taxpayers! Of course, he doesn’t directly call his plan a tax increase. Instead, he uses the normal buzzwords of “tax reform” and “rolling back credits” but we all know they equal the same thing: more money out of your wallet. With well over 100,000 New Mexicans out of a job, it’s quite the strategy to force them to pay billions extra, yet that is the plan of the eco-left. Their radical environmental special interests will always come first. New Mexico Back to Blog Posts
