Will A Gas Tax Hike Be On the Agenda For New Mexico’s Special Session? May 15, 2020 The eco-left tried to raise New Mexico’s gas tax during a budget surplus, will they push for it even harder now because the state faces a massive deficit? You might recall just last February when eco-left advocates took to the legislature to support a bill increasing New Mexico’s gas tax from 17 cents to 47 cents per gallon. Pushers of the tax tried to pretend there were particle reasons for the increase, but the young eco-left supporters didn’t hide the real reason: they want a higher gas tax in order to fight climate change. Thankfully, the proposal was soundly defeated in bipartisan fashion. Fast forward to today where the sponsor of the bill is facing a challenge in New Mexico’s June 2nd primary election. His promise? If he’s re-elected he’ll be bringing the proposal back to Santa Fe. New Mexico will hold a special session sometime during the summer. If the past is any indication, they’ll be pushing their green agenda under the guise of “fixing” New Mexico’s budget deficit. New Mexico Back to Blog Posts
