Ethics For Thee, But Not For Me: New Mexico “Ethics” Groups Ignore Eco-Left Influence

When talking about ethics, any reasonable person would believe the rules should apply equally to everyone. However, that’s not the case in a recent “report” issued by two leftist groups in New Mexico.

Earlier this week, New Mexico Ethics Watch and Common Cause New Mexico issued a report on spending by the oil and gas industry in New Mexico politics. Authors of the report bemoaned the “oceans of money, oceans of influence” of the industry. However, it seems they are only concerned with the money spent when that money comes from those they oppose.

When the dollars and the questionable tactics come from the eco-left, NM Ethics Watch and Common Cause are all too quiet.

Was it ethical for New Mexico’s Energy Secretary to allow her former employer to write part of New Mexico’s Green New Deal? Apparently, that’s acceptable to NM Ethics Watch and Common Cause.

When we uncovered Michael Bloomberg funding two lawyers within the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office, these same groups were quiet. This practice has been criticized and outlawed by leaders on both sides of the aisle. Yet, this report by “non-partisan” groups doesn’t mention it at all.

In fact, not a single dollar from radical environmental groups, solar companies or out-of-state eco-billionaires is mentioned at all.

Why?

For NM Ethics Watch and Common Cause, it appears ethics are flexible when the money comes from their friends.
