New Study Shows the Green New Deal Would Cost Swing-State Households Hundreds of Billions February 27, 2020 As Bernie Sanders solidifies his status as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 Presidential election, a new study paints a grim picture of the effects of his Green New Deal (GND). Released by the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Power the Future, the report uses updated data to determine the costs of GND policies on individual states and households. The study estimated a $75,000 average annual cost for households in the key battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. These costs illustrate just how out-of-touch these far-left proposals, and their proponents, are. Fox News reports: In total, these states would face $2.7 trillion in aggregate costs to households. Households just in the key battleground state of Florida would face $700 billion in collective costs to fulfill the GND’s goal of transitioning towards electric vehicles, retrofit residential buildings, and complying with changes to shipping and logistics. Released on Wednesday, the study found that households in other major states — like Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania — would incur roughly $200-$400 billion in initial costs. The American Action Forum has estimated the total cost of GND programs to be as high as $94 trillion for the entire country, or around $600,000 per household. These astronomical figures would obliterate all of the economic progress made since President Trump took office and set the American economy back for generations. Daniel Turner, the executive director of Power the Future, said: Right now, our booming national economy and record low unemployment rate are driven by abundant, domestic, reliable, and inexpensive energy produced by millions of men and women across the country…Any policy that proposes to reverse this success is a threat to jobs, to rural communities, to national security, and to the very prosperity that Americans are experiencing. For years, the eco-left has used the ‘boogeyman’ of climate change to increase their political influence. If they’re successful in passing the GND, blue-collar Americans will bear the brunt of the burden associated with their proposed economic upheaval. In order to protect our economy, communities, and households from the devastating effects of radical environmentalist policies, Americans must once again vote Trump in 2020.
