These Are California Standards, but “We Really Don’t Want to Say That” in New Mexico

October 21, 2019

It’s one of those rare moments where we get to see the New Mexico Governor’s office being honest about their environmental agenda.

Not too long ago, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham unilaterally decided to lead the state down the road to arbitrary car standards. Putting aside the fact she doesn’t live up to those standards herself, the move was blasted by business leaders simply on the merits.

The move garnered no shortage of media attention including a question from the Associated Press which simply asked: Aren’t these essentially the California standards? Emails obtained by Power The Future show the real answer. Spoiler, it’s yes.

Here we have the Press Secretary for the Governor admitting New Mexico is just following the failed California environmental agenda but clearly, they don’t want to admit it. Why?

It’s because leaders in New Mexico are pointing out that much of the energy agenda being imposed from Santa Fe got its start in the Golden State. Remember, residents of California pay more than 40% extra for their electricity than families in New Mexico, at least for now.

Perhaps that’s why those pushing California’s failed energy policies here in New Mexico…“don’t really want to say that.”
