Julian Castro’s Environmental Plan Would Bankrupt America September 4, 2019 Yesterday we told you about Senator Cory Booker’s extreme environmental plan that cost a trillion more than the plan proposed by Senator Elizabeth Warren. Today, the race to be crowned the eco-champion with the farthest left plan got a new contender – former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro. If you thought Booker’s or Warren’s plan was expensive, you’ll have sticker shock at Castro’s plan. His would cost a whopping $10 trillion. CNN explains that Castro’s plan, called the “People and Planet First Plan,” would address the “existential threat” of climate change by phasing out coal by 2030. By 2030, all “light and medium duty vehicles” would be forced to become zero-emissions. By 2045, the entire could would be net-zero emissions. Think about this for a moment. Castro would lay off the over 50,000 coal workers in America. Somehow, vehicles would be forced to zero emissions. Would he ban the internal combustion engine? As part of his eco-plan, Castro would raise taxes on carbon and institute a bevy of left-wing tax hikes, such as an “inheritance tax.” He would also roll back President Trump’s tax cuts, raising taxes on nearly every person in America. Castro would bankrupt America while making life harder and more expensive for middle-class American families struggling to get by. 2020 Election Back to Blog Posts
