Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Fear Mongering Panned By Climate Scientists January 24, 2019 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the brainchild behind the extreme “Green New Deal,” is now resorting to scare tactics to sell her socialist-inspired agenda. Earlier this week, Ocasio-Cortez said that “the world is going to end in 12 years” unless we address global warming and pass her agenda. She said that fighting global warming needs to be treated like “World War II.” Ocasio-Cortez’s excessive remarks immediately drew criticism, even from climate scientists themselves. Axios reports that “prominent climate scientists are pushing back” against Ocasio-Cortez’s view, which has been “promoted by media coverage.” The 12-year number comes from a questionable UN IPCC report, but Axios notes that the media got it wrong. A “rigid 12-year timetable” is not in the report. Ocasio-Cortez may be succeeding in getting 2020 presidential candidates to endorse her agenda, but convincing the American people to embrace an unprecedented government takeover of the economy and healthcare is all but impossible if you tell the truth about how much it will cost. Ocasio-Cortez knows that people won’t like her agenda if they know the details, so she’s attempting to distort the conversation with fake statistics and fear mongering. It’s not the first time she’s done this. She has repeatedly faced condemnation for making up economic statistics, such as when she proclaimed that “unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs.” PolitiFact rated that false claim “Pants On Fire!” She also once stated as supposed historical fact that, “When this country started, we did not operate on a capitalist economy.” That is simply untrue. The far-left environmental wing has once again demonstrated a pattern: strong on rhetoric, weak on facts. Back to Blog Posts
