Kirsten Gillibrand Backs The “Green New Deal” – Will Kamala Harris Be Next?

What do Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Julian Castro and Kirsten Gillibrand have in common? They’re all declared or likely 2020 presidential candidates, and they’ve all signaled their support for the “Green New Deal.”

In just months, freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has shifted the left to the extreme on issues of energy and the environment, and the burgeoning 2020 race to embrace the “Green New Deal” is the clearest evidence of this yet. Just this week, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand broke her silence and endorsed the plan.

Within days of launching their bids, almost every declared 2020 presidential candidate has backed the “Green New Deal,” Ocasio-Cortez’s technically impossible plan to decarbonize the country through government fiat. Notably, each of these candidates has endorsed the “Green New Deal” without the plan actually having a price tag. Forcing “100 percent” renewable energy, instituting universal healthcare, and creating a taxpayer-funded basic income program can’t be cheap. But these left-wing politicians don’t care.

It’s as if virtue-signaling to the liberal base on environmental issues is more important than…reality.

So far, though, there’s one holdout. On Monday, California Senator Kamala Harris announced her presidential campaign, and said nothing about the “Green New Deal.” Shortly after, the Sunrise Movement, the group working with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to force through the “Green New Deal,” blasted Kamala on Twitter, demanding that she support the plan.

Time will tell if Kamala will back the “Green New Deal,” but if her colleagues in the 2020 primary are any indication, it’s all but inevitable.
