SHOTS FIRED: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Loses Early Skirmish In Left’s Civil War January 11, 2019 The left’s civil war over Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s extreme environmental agenda is heating up, and yesterday, Ocasio-Cortez was dealt a stunning setback. In order to assuage the environmentalist movement, liberal leaders created a “Select Committee on the Climate Crisis” to ostensibly discuss environmental policy. The far left had assumed that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal” would be first on the agenda. They were wrong. The Daily Caller is reporting that leaders on the left have snubbed Ocasio-Cortez and are declining to focus on the “Green New Deal” as the committee’s first legislative push. Instead, they will be discussing “fuel economy standards.” This is a far cry from Ocasio-Cortez’s plans for a total overhaul. The committee’s decision signals that party leadership is less than enthralled about the plan, and is a blow to Ocasio-Cortez’s hopes of pushing her Green New Deal through Congress. Without the Democratic leadership on board, she has no hope of bringing it to a vote. This isn’t the only headache for Ocasio-Cortez. Politico is reporting this morning that the freshman Congresswoman “is already making enemies in the House Democratic Caucus” and that her fellow Democrats are working to “rein” her in because they are “annoyed” by her. Twenty lawmakers and aids reportedly informed Politico about the “part carrot, part stick” measures Democrats are taking to stifle Ocasio-Cortez’s agenda. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may be winning over Instagram followers and late-night TV show hosts, but perhaps she just isn’t that good at getting along with her fellow Democrats. Back to Blog Posts
