John Kerry’s Laughable Ukraine Comments Show How Out of Touch the Biden Administration has Become February 28, 2022 Last week, Vladimir Putin began his all-out assault on the nation of Ukraine. The world has watched in horror as his forces inflict terrible human suffering on the people of another sovereign nation. But Former Secretary of State and climate envoy for the Biden administration John Kerry is concerned with the greenhouse gas emissions caused by the invasion. He told BBC News: “It could have a profound negative impact on the climate obviously. You have a war and obviously you’re going to have massive emissions consequences to the war. But equally importantly you’re going to lose people’s focus. You’re going to lose, certainly, big country attention because they will be diverted, and I think it could have a damaging impact.” He also said: “I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate.” This mindset is rampant in the White House. The Biden administration will declare war on American energy producers, while hoping our foreign adversaries will cripple their own economies. It’s a fantasy. Kerry and the Biden White House will prioritize their climate goals over the success of America and our allies. The Wall Street Journal editorial board deservedly took Kerry to task: Mr. Kerry’s comments aren’t a gaffe. They reveal the Biden Administration’s obsession with climate, and with punishing fossil-fuel production, which has made the U.S. and Europe vulnerable to Mr. Putin’s energy blackmail. The climate lobby has made Mr. Putin more powerful. Every time Mr. Kerry visits Moscow, the boys in the Kremlin must think it’s Christmas. The only way to respond to Putin and his thugs is to implement punishing sanctions while also unleashing American energy production. Last Thursday, Power the Future sent a letter to President Biden calling on him to immediately implement this “sanctions plus production” strategy. Robust energy production will hurt Putin, bolster our allies in Europe, and boost our economy at home. John Kerry’s laughable comments show how out of touch the Biden administration has become. It’s not too late to change course and flex America’s energy muscle. Back to Blog Posts
