Energy Hero: Alex Epstein

Our next hero is one who needs little introduction because he has been writing about the need for fossil fuel energy for years. Alex Epstein is a Power The Future energy hero in 2022 because of his new book titled, Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas–Not Less. 

As John Tamney writes in his review of Epstein’s new book for Forbes, “As Epstein puts it, ‘the more power we have at our disposal, the more food, clothing, shelter, medical care, education, and anything else we can produce with our limited time.’ Amen. Oil and its byproducts have very thankfully mechanized so much of what used to be human effort. This automation didn’t put us in breadlines as the highly limited in thought would imagine. In reality, what saves us from work frees us to pursue new wants and needs in what Epstein refers to as ‘limited time.’ This truth cannot be stressed or repeated enough.”

Epstein is a New York Times best-selling author for a reason: he gets it. Fossil energy is fundamental to our American way of life. We use it to heat our homes and drive places, but it’s also used to produce almost everything. Speaking out on the need for fossil energy isn’t popular these days but it’s very needed.
