Biden Blesses Putin’s Pipeline, While Rejecting Similar Approach Benefiting Americans May 19, 2021 Axios reports that the Biden Administration has agreed to waive sanctions on the company overseeing construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The Nord Stream 2 is a pipeline project that would allow Russia to export natural gas directly to Europe over the Baltic Sea. Axios says, “the completion of Nord Stream 2 would be a geopolitical win for Putin and give him substantial new leverage in Europe.” Yahoo! News was quick to point out that the decision is a reversal for the White House: Back in February, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the Biden administration considered the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which will transport natural gas from Russia to Germany, “a bad deal” that “exposes Ukraine and Central Europe” to Moscow and “goes against Europe’s own stated energy and security goals.” Similarly, during his confirmation hearing, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he is “determined to do whatever we can to prevent” the completion of the controversial pipeline. But on Tuesday, Axios reported the Biden administration is set to waive sanctions on the company overseeing its construction, as well its CEO, Matthias Warnig, who is considered a “crony” of Russian President Vladimir Putin. So, President Biden is now removing barriers to Putin’s pipeline, while continuing to stand by his decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline here in the United States. Biden’s decision on Keystone XL, according to his own labor union allies, cost 1,000 existing union jobs and 10,000 projected construction jobs. It’s a sad day when the needs of American workers are set aside in favor of appeasing radical environmentalists. While at the same time, the Biden Administration will let Vladimir Putin and his “crony” complete their pipeline and reap the economic benefits. We’ll let Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) have the last word on this issue: Stunning. In defiance of U.S. law, Biden is actively helping Putin build his pipeline.Objectively speaking, the Biden administration is shaping up to be the most pro-Russia administration of the modern era. https://t.co/3FwjiIILEc— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) May 18, 2021 Back to Blog Posts
