As War in Middle East Begins, Joe Biden Has Depleted Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) To Lowest Level in Decades

October 11, 2023

At just the type of moment the strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) was founded for, this national asset is at its lowest level since 1983. Despite the fact there was no oil crisis at the time, ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, President Biden drained 180 million barrels from the SPR.

Daily Caller reports,  “President Joe Biden opted to tap into the strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) in late 2021 and 2022, a decision which now leaves the U.S. in a potentially vulnerable position as the Middle East is on the verge of a conflict that could disrupt oil supply, numerous energy policy experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

…Now, the SPR has about 17 days of emergency supply left as war breaks out between Israel and Hamas, an Iran-backed terrorist organization, a situation which leaves the U.S. in a precarious position if the conflict escalates to further destabilize the Middle East, experts told the DCNF.”

President Biden has left the United States vulnerable in a time of crisis. Instead of playing political games with our national reserves, he should get out of the way of America’s domestic energy producers so that they can reverse the damage of his reckless decision to drain the SPR.
