Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Votes *Against* Her Green New Deal March 7, 2019 Last month, far-left congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rolled out the “Green New Deal,” her extreme plan to bring socialism to America under the guise of environmentalism. This quickly became the Democratic party’s signature policy proposal, with many leading liberals endorsing the bill. Just weeks after being sworn into office, Ocasio-Cortez had convinced her party to adopt her terrible legislation as its latest litmus test. But could Ocasio-Cortez’s commitment to the Green New Deal be a mile wide and an inch deep? The Daily Caller reports that yesterday, “Democrats on the House Committee on Financial Services voted unanimously against an amendment introduced by a GOP lawmaker to spark debate about a key demand of the Green New Deal.” GOP Rep Sean Duffy introduced an amendment echoing the very provisions of the Green New Deal as a way to bring up the bill for debate. But Democrats led by Maxine Waters and Ocasio-Cortez had no interest in debating. Waters “urged fellow Democrats to vote against it,” and they obliged. Every Democrat, including Ocasio-Cortez, voted against the Green New Deal provisions. This makes no sense. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been warning that the earth will end in 12 years if the Green New Deal isn’t passed – but when she gets the chance to support it, she declines? The committee discussion and vote reveals one of the biggest problems facing the Green New Deal. While plenty on the left are willing to give lip service to the proposal, most reasonable politicians regardless of party know that the Green New Deal is unrealistic and unworkable. That’s why when they’re given the chance to actually vote for it, they run for the hills. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Green New Deal Back to Blog Posts
