Time to Celebrate, Alaska! Pikka Project Moving Forward!

August 17, 2022

By 2026, there should be an additional 80,000 barrels a day moving down the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS), thanks to a final investment decision announced yesterday.

The Pikka field, jointly owned by oil companies Santos and Repsol, had its fate decided and publicized to fanfare from Alaskan government, industry and financial leaders.  The 15% or so boost to TAPS output, along with thousands of Alaska jobs associated with Pikka’s development, is reason to celebrate.

“This is the best news for my members in some time“, exclaimed Rebecca Logan, CEO of the Alaska Support Industry Alliance, as it “means work for Alaskan contractors.”  Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy noted it would “continue the renaissance on Alaska’s North Slope”, where another giant field, ConocoPhillips’ Willow, is being held up by federal delays and eco-left litigation.

But today, we celebrate a major win for jobs, revenues, opportunity and a continued bright energy future in the Great Land.
