Congress to FERC: Do Something About Dangerous Summer Blackouts Before the Lights Go Out for Millions

The past few summers, Americans have dealt with rolling blackouts. Unfortunately, the summer of 2022 will be no different – in fact, it will likely be much worse. This summer, the blackouts are likely to affect many more people. Members of Congress are demanding answers. This week 26 House Republicans sent multiple letters to Biden’s energy officials, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Richard Glick.

The letter reads: 

“These reliability risks have been unfolding in plain sight, yet we have seen little concerted effort during the Biden administration to address relevant policies that contribute to these risks—policies relating to the delivery of energy fuels, market-design issues, environmental agendas, and regulations that threaten power generation.” 

These letters are important and signal just how serious this issue has become. FERC chairman Glick has already made clear that his priority is pushing America toward transitioning to green energy and away from reliable forms of energy like American fossil fuels. In May, he said:

“‘I think the argument about going back to the way it used to be 30 years ago, that’s not going to happen. We’re moving forward.”

Glick has been renominated as chairman of FERC. He will have to answer for statements like these. In the meantime, blackouts are a serious issue and can quickly become life-threatening, especially in the summer. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) told Fox Business:  

“Blackouts are life threatening and extremely dangerous. President Biden, the Department of Energy, and FERC must take these threats and their responsibility to ensure reliable and affordable energy seriously.”

Time and time again, this administration has shown its loyalty to the eco-lefts demands. Hopefully, they will wake up before the lights go out for millions of Americans.
