New York to Ban Gas-Fueled Cars by 2035

New York’s new Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) has wasted no time settling into her new role. Earlier this week it was announced that New York State is following California and banning the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.

Hochul must be taking a cue from another eco-left politician in New York and starting her own Green New Deal in the state. CNET discussed a blog post from the Governor’s office in which DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos explained the new rule.

“Today’s announcement demonstrates New York’s commitment to reduce climate-altering greenhouse gas emissions from the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, the transportation sector.” Seggos also noted that, “when adopted, this new regulation will require an increasing percentage of all new trucks sold in New York to be zero-emissions vehicles beginning with the 2025 model year.” The moves, which come in advance of NYC Climate Week 2021, are all part of the state’s plan to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 85% by 2050.”

As we pointed out last year when California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an order to do the same:

California is already one of the most expensive states to live in, and the people of California deserve to have options in terms of how they spend their money and live their lives. This is just the most recent example of the eco-left being either deaf to Americans’ current economic situation or ignoring it to relentlessly pursue their own political agenda.

The same sentiments apply to New York. The state is already expensive to live in and this massive overreach will just cost residents even more. Banning the sale of gas-fueled cars in less than 15 years is unrealistic and these power grab policies continue to do more harm than good.
