Senator Kamala Harris Supports the Green New Deal

Last night’s Vice-Presidential debate featured a lot of discussion around climate science, fracking, and the Green New Deal. Vice President Mike Pence attacked Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) for all of the proposals that make so many Americans nervous about a potential Biden-Harris Administration, particularly concerning fracking.

Pence responded to Harris, repeatedly charging that a potential Biden-Harris administration would ban fracking and support the Green New Deal. Pence attacked Harris on these topics several times, even on questions not specifically related to climate change.

Harris spent most of these discussions denying that a Biden Administration would ban fracking, citing the numerous times that he has refuted that claim. But, many still remain skeptical for good reason. Biden has flip-flopped on the issue numerous times, and Harris endorsed the Green New Deal during the Democratic primary. She even introduced legislation to begin implementing some aspects of the radical proposal.

“Now, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would put us back in the Paris climate Accord they’d impose the Green New Deal, which would crush American energy, would increase the energy costs of American families in their homes, and literally would crush American jobs,” Pence said.

Biden’s new climate plan calls the Green New Deal a “crucial framework for meeting the climate challenges we face.” His plan also calls for transitioning the country to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, as well as other goals in common with the Green New Deal. It’s difficult for Americans to believe a Biden-Harris Administration wouldn’t implement the radical climate proposals that they’ve spent so long talking about on the campaign trail, especially when talk of “moderate policy” has only come to light when it came time to worry about swing states.
