State Energy Secretary: Oil And Gas Production A “Problem” For New Mexico February 7, 2020 It’s a case of one New Mexico eco-left official getting caught being honest. In notes uncovered by Real Clear Energy, New Mexico’s Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Secretary Sarah Propst seemed to regret the impact of oil and natural gas in New Mexico. In private notes, she wrote, “problem is oil production in Permian [is] 1.5b/month in commerce, 400% ↑ in production.” The notes were taken during an exclusive Rockefeller Brothers Foundation meeting in July of last year. It’s unclear why the secretary feels an industry that employs over 100,000 New Mexicans and contributes nearly 40 percent of the entire state budget in taxes is a “problem.” You might recall, Secretary Propst was also caught working behind the scenes with her former employer to craft New Mexico’s own version of the Green New Deal. The action caused one legislator to call for her resignation, which she ignored. In an ironic twist, the private notes uncovered from the meeting also show Secretary Propst discussing strategy about how to hide their notes using snail mail instead of email. To date, no media outlet has confronted the Secretary about her comments. New Mexico Back to Blog Posts
