The World’s Biggest Hot Air Balloon Event: Made Possible By New Mexico’s Energy Workers

If you notice an unusual quiet from New Mexico’s “keep it in the ground” environmental crowd over the next two weeks, there’s a reason for it.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta lifts off this weekend thanks to energy workers who produce the propane that lifts the balloons off the ground. For those who don’t know, the Balloon Fiesta draws nearly 1 million visitors to New Mexico each October where fiesta-goers are treated to over 600 balloons taking to the air, each with different colors or shapes but all with one thing in common: propane.

No doubt a number of New Mexico politicians who spend the rest of the year lecturing us about a life “beyond carbon” will embrace the warm glow of hypocrisy as they attend Fiesta photo-ops over the next two weekends. Will anyone have the courage to ask those eco-radical office holders why they work to undermine the fuel that powers the Fiesta? Doubtful.

With the Balloon Fiesta delivering more than $170 million in economic impact, it’s yet another example of how carbon-based energy is paying off for New Mexico. Make no mistake, while the eco-left wants to ruin the fun, it will be New Mexico’s energy workers who make the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta possible.
