New Mexico’s Energy Industry Adds Thousands Of Jobs Despite Eco-Left Onslaught August 20, 2019 The eco-left wants New Mexicans to forget the oil and gas industry means over 90,000 jobs in our state and contributes 32% of the entire state budget. Yet, the energy industry continues to grow despite the political attacks from radical special interests. The latest employment numbers for New Mexico reveal what many already know: the oil and gas industry is providing great jobs and growing the economy. New Mexico added 6,400 new jobs in the mining and construction industries last month, which includes jobs from oil and natural gas. This growth comes despite the fact the state’s unemployment rate was slightly up over the same month last year.
