Washington State Embraces Hidden Carbon Tax

May 8, 2019

Eco-activists are parading around the country promoting “clean energy” and 100 percent renewable energy mandates.

They might sound good as political talking points, but they’re actually backdoor carbon taxes that hurt the most vulnerable.

Just this week, Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed a law requiring his state to move to 100 percent clean energy. Remember, Inslee is waging a long-shot presidential campaign based on being an eco-warrior. This is just the latest in his long line of promoting extreme eco policy. In fact, as Power The Future has noted, Inslee has tried and failed multiple times to force through a carbon tax on the people of his state.

Now it seems he has done it, though it is hidden by design.

Mandating renewable energy forces utilities to use more expensive energy, and they pass that cost on to consumers. It’s a tax by another name.

In fact, the Heritage Foundation explains that energy mandates threaten to double electric bills. That hurts low-income families the most, who spend a disproportionate amount of their income on energy.

Inslee’s latest eco-policy mirrors Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal” and that plan’s renewable energy mandate. A report out just today from the American Action Forum found that the Green New Deal’s energy mandates would cost an additional $2,500 per household per year.

Does your family have an extra $2,500 every year to give to the utility company?

We doubt it.

These plans may sound good in soundbites, but they hurt vulnerable families the most.
