Governor Andrew Cuomo Signs New York’s Own “Green New Deal” Into Law

The eco-left knows that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s federal “Green New Deal” has become a national laughingstock that is unlikely to ever become law. But they’re not giving up – instead, the eco-left is working tirelessly to pass mini-Green New Deals under the radar at the state level.

First, they passed New Mexico’s very own-Green New Deal. Then, they tried (and failed) to pass a carbon tax in Oregon.

Unfortunately, they have now succeeded in New York.

On Thursday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law New York’s “version of a Green New Deal.”

“Ours is the real deal,” said Cuomo, who was joined by former Vice President Al Gore.

“The law aims to put the Empire State at the forefront of efforts to reduce greenhouse gases by supercharging the shift to renewable energy and cutting the use of fossil fuels in power production and other pursuits,” reports the Times Union.

The law forces the state to move to zero emissions by 2040. Experts are warning that this “could lead to sharply higher electricity costs for New York consumers” and will require “large subsidies from ratepayers across the state.”

In fact, researchers from the University of Chicago estimate that renewable energy mandates can raise electricity prices by 17%. The Heritage Foundation goes even further, finding that these energy mandates could double electric bills for families.

This is just the latest eco-extremism from Andrew Cuomo. In 2014, Cuomo banned fracking, preventing good-paying jobs in upstate New York. Cuomo has also stopped needed pipeline development, which has helped cause natural gas shortages and required the state to actually import natural gas from Russia.

As the Wall Street Journal noted, “The reason for the shortage is obvious: The Cuomo administration has repeatedly blocked or delayed new pipeline projects. As a Con Ed spokesman put it, there is a ‘lot of natural gas around the country, but getting it to New York has been the strain.’”

Andrew Cuomo is an eco-extremist, through and through. Sadly, the people of New York – those who will pay higher energy bills – are the ones who will suffer.
